What is Foam Concrete and CLC Blocks?

Which is the foam-concrete?

It is a slurry made of cement which must have at least 20% of foam to be considered a foam concrete. This kind of concrete is an ideal alternative for many construction projects as it helps save on labor costs and other expenses.

This lightweight concrete has compressive strength of between 5 and 8 MPa with a density of about 1000 kg/m3. It is a great material to build houses because it offers both strength and insulation. The lightweight concrete is typically constructed using a mix of cement or fly ash, unlike other brands that use pure cement , water and an ingredient that foams.

Another advantage with foam concrete is that it doesn't need to be compacted. It adheres to the surface contours and lines that the subgrade. It can be pumped over long distances with very little pressure. It's also very strong and will not degrade. However, foam concrete will cost more money than normal concrete.

Another advantage from foam concrete is that they can reduce the weight of structures by as much as 80percent. Because of the air content of the material air bubbles are evenly spread throughout the concrete. The size of these air bubbles can range between 0.1 to one mm. Its foam concrete density is between 400 and 1600 kg/m3. It offers a high level of fire resistance , and is an excellent thermal and acoustic insulator. Another advantage to foam concrete is it needs minimum compaction and no vibration.

Where are CLC blocks employed?

Cellular Lightweight Concrete (CLC) blocks are superior to regular concrete blocks. These lighter bricks have a lower density because of their aggregate and cement amount, and also are better in thermal and sound insulation. They also have a larger shape and size than traditional clay bricks. In previous studies recycled plastic and glass wastes have been used as cement additives in order to increase the compressive strength. It is imperative to realize that the particle size of glass should not exceed 45 millimeters for it to function as a cement substitute.

It was measured using PN-EN 12390-5:2011.

Density and strength of concrete made from foam are dependent on the amount of foam present in the mortar. Its composition is composed of low-mass aggregates such a clay that has been expanded, vermiculite, and pumice.
