Direct current arc plasma method was used to prepare multi-walled carbon nanotubes-confined metal tin nanostructures (Sn@MWCNT) as an initial precursor in a methane atmosphere. Later, SnS_2@MWCNT-like nanostructures were fabricated by in the reaction of sulfurization. The results of the physical characterisation of the materials such as Raman, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed that the size of multi-walled carbon Nanotubes was approximately 400nm, the surface carbon layer was well crystallized it was thicker than the surrounding carbon, approximately 10 nm. Lithium-ion batteries using Sn S2@MWCNT nanostructures as anode material have shown relatively good electrochemical performance. The initial charged-discharge Coulomb efficiency is 71% at the end of 50 cycles of use, the capacity still maintains 703 mAh?g-1. The high-capacity characteristics of SnS_2@MWCNT nanostructured electrodes are due to the fact that a range of active materials can provide the capacity together, and the reaction platform of each is unique to each material.
Study on electrochemical performance of tin disulfide/single-walled carbon nanotube composite material used as anode material for lithium-ion battery
A novel composite material comprising SnS2 and single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) was created using an easy method of solvothermal. It has an excellent electrochemical performance when placed on the electrode that is negative of lithium ion battery. At a current density of 1 A/g, after 100 cycles still retains a reversible capacity of more than 510 millions of mAh/g. To illustrate, we applied similar methods to synthesize a single SnS2 material and conduct studies on electrochemistry on the material. Results indicate that although the initial capabilities of SnS2 material is impressive, the cycle performance is low and diminishes quickly after less than 20 cycles. The better capacity of this particular composite for batteries that use lithium is thought to be due to the synergy between two component in SnS2 in addition to SWCNTs.
